As promised, the update on the update. For me, my SR7009 has come back to life! It is a European unit, so I hope you have one too. If not, at least you know it can be solved by updating through USB, that will save you multiple trips to your Marantz dealer / lots of postage. Step 3 - Inside the Simcity folder go to the Extra folder and open the “Electronic Arts, Inc CA.crt” file, click “Install Certificate” then click next, then click the “Place certificates in the following store” button, click ‘Browse’, Select “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” and click Ok. Then just click next and finish. You should see a message appearing saying.

Firmware Update Error Marantz SR7009 - can't get out of it to use reciever :(
Hello,
So i've seen this error on older models via other forum posts but not a proper method to fix it.
What happened was it asked if we wanted to do a firmware update...sadly, i said yes. It said authenticating, then it rebooted. On the main display it said 'connection failed' and then 'update retry' (or something to that effect). It would then reboot after a couple minutes, and again, update retry. It would never actually retried.
Tried what i could find on older models with same issue:
1) plug it directly to modem
2) factory reset
3) some network reset i found for an older model (may not be valid for SR7009 but tried it anyways) -- didn't do anything
4) unplugged and replugged in
Regards,
Sanjay

Hi!
I made an account to reply, cause you seem to be the only person having the same problem as me.
Today I decided to update, and it also failed with a 'GUI 56 Download Failed' message. Amplifier is totally crazy. No HDMI throughput, no sound and no setup menu
This is what I tried so far:
-> Retry: didn't work, connection problem
-> Network rest: didn't work, connection problem
-> Full reset: not showing retry anymore, can do some things with the amp. HDMI throughput and selection works again, but still no menu/sound and purple flashes on my screen.
This is what I am trying now:
-> I found the SR7009 firmware update online at h**p:**firmware.marantz.eu
-> Downloaded it, put it on a USB stick, and followed the procedure (button pressing)
-> At the moment it is updating, estimated time 60 minutes.... Looks promising...
Hope this helps, I will update this thread with the results, but at least you have something to try.
Good luck!

Important to note the firmware update via USB is currently only available for European units when downloaded from a Marantz Europe website.

As promised, the update on the update.
For me, my SR7009 has come back to life! It is a European unit, so I hope you have one too.
If not, at least you know it can be solved by updating through USB, that will save you multiple trips to your Marantz dealer / lots of postage. At least, if Marantz provides you with a firmware for your model.
I must note though the firmware you download is not the one offered directly on your receiver, because when checking for updates, it notifies me a newer version is available. Since I feel adventurous today (and because I can now fix a failed upgrade), I am updating to this newer version at this very moment. This time I did it on a clean set of settings, so only wired connection and DHCP. Basically the minimal selection to get through the setup wizard.
I'll keep you guys updated if this work now, or fails again...
Cheers,
Spamnirvana

Ok, this time the update using the receiver's menu did pass the GUI part, but seems to be stuck in some kind of EIMG update loop (4-3-2-1 minute, reset, update retry etc etc)
Some quick googling revealed a similar error for Denon receivers some time back, so I guess they made the same mistake once more. Anybody know how that was resolved?

Final update:
After numerous EIMG loops, it finally fails with a 'EIMG B2 Updating failed' and a locked receiver. I returned to normal operation by:
- pressing standby for 5 seconds until unit resets. It will still try to retry and fail again.
- hold music and movie while switching on. This resets the receiver, and it no longer tries to retry
After this I went to setup->firmware->updates->search and it finds a 4 minute update (before was 56min). This is that EIMG update, so the rest was fine.
Applying this 4 min update made me go back to the same loop with failed updates, but digging around I found this update has to do with the HDMI board. Realizing I have a 10m or 15m long cable connected, I decided to unplug all HDMI cables, both in and output, and let it run.
After 15min I came back, and the update now succeeded! Also when checking for updates, it indicates I am fully up to date.
Very disappointed with Marantz about this update mayhem , but at least I can watch movies again.
So for you all, try the USB update, then the update on the receiver with the HDMI cables unplugged, and it might just work...
Good luck!

I just received my 7009 on friday. When I try to do the update through the unit it says 'login failed'. I have a US unit so I cant get the usb update. I am having some issues with hdmi on my hd-dvd player and others have reported updating the firmware fixed hdmi issues for them so its important that I figure this out. Anyone have any ideas?

So Spamnirvana,
Do you still have the zip file you used to recover your amp? Current file on the marantz firmware site is corrupt.
Kind regards

It is possible to do it wirelessly, although not as reliable. Also, if you contact Marantz USA, they are starting to provide URL sites for a USB download on at least the NR1605. Worth checking to see if available for the SR7009 or not. 2019 Denon AVR Owner's thread

What buttons do you need to press? Can't find the procudre in the manual for a USB firmware update

The procedure should be listed with the firmware download. What buttons do you need to press? Can't find the procudre in the manual for a USB firmware update

I bricked my SR7009 by performing a wireless firmware update, and got the constant 'connection failed, update retry 02' every time I powered the receiver back on. Marantz tech support wasn't particularly helpful in troubleshooting this, either. While I was waiting for a replacement, I took a stab in the dark and ran a 100' network cable to a LAN port my router, powered on the unit, and it automatically finished the update and was resurrected, back to full functionality.
The lesson I learned is not to upgrade firmware for this receiver any way other than USB or a wire. Hopefully this helps someone!

The AVR wasn't actually 'bricked' otherwise it would have been no longer usable, rather it simply got locked up doing the firmware update. A network reset would have restored the AVR back to working status and allowed you to attempt the update again. Although a 'wired' update is certainly more reliable, others have performed a 'wireless' update with no issues. I suppose 'bricked' is the wrong word. It was stuck in some sort of update loop, and wasn't capable of any output while it was in that state. I definitely would've tried the network reset, had I discovered this thread first!

Should you ever have a stuck update again or otherwise need to reset the network card, press/hold the MOVE+MUSIC buttons on the front panel of the SR7009 while powering on the unit. Hold the buttons for at least 4-5 seconds after releasing the power on button. Doing this procedure also incorporates a microprocessor reset which when done on it's own would use the GAME + A-DSX buttons instead. 2019 Denon AVR Owner's thread

Hello all. New to this Forum. First post. ... As I was updating the firmware for my SR7009 today, part way through, the system hung. The SETUP button won't work - either on the remote or on the device. If I could only get to SETUP ... I think I could take care of the rest. Some quick googling revealed a similar error for Denon receivers some time back, so I guess they made the same mistake once more. Called Marantz Support in the US and together we made several attempts at Factory Reset. Didn’t work. They suggested I need to get the firmware flashed at a Marantz service center.
Does anyone know if firmware flash is possible remotely? I live in Bangladesh, where there is no authorised Marantz dealer. Will need to take it to Singapore .... that's a crazy expensive proposition.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Try doing a 'Network reset' by pressing/holding the MOVIE+MUSIC buttons on the front panel while powering on the AVR. Release the power button and continue pressing/holding the MOVIE+MUSIC buttons about 4-5 seconds.
